Those of you on the market for a Windows laptop that can substituted for the Macintosh Air and add some features to boot loved my deal on the Sony S laptop last week.
The Sony S and Z series of laptops is the only thin and light laptop that can duplicate (and in the case of the Sony surpass) the 1440 x 900 resolution of the MacBook Air with the exception of the Intel Ultrabook laptops being released by a number of companies. I tried one of these, the Zenbook from Asus last week and was sorely disappointed by the laptop. The worst feature was the keypad which was was not back-lit and which had highly inaccurate key response. In other words, you can’t see what you type in low lit situations plus you tend to make a lot of keyboard errors even when you type the letters incorrectly.
The Sony S and z series laptops have a great keyboard, back-lit and responsive. Plus the Sony a discreet graphics card which the Macbook Air and the Ultrabooks all use Intel HD300 Graphics. I noticed a big difference between the graphics capacity of the Sony as compared to the Mac and Ultrabooks despite the claims Intel makes for their latest and greatest on the chip graphics.
So my recommendation is go go with the SA390X which is the high end level of the Sony S series laptops. I found the following deal where you customize your own laptop, adding the features you want and then get a free upgrade to Windows 7 Professional. When you add this free option, Sony allows you to also add another feature called Fresh Start. If you check Fresh Start, they do not put any bloatware on the system. Since Sony puts so much bloatware on their systems, this is itself a good reason to visit Sony though this link.
